Introducing the As Galgos Wish Collection
As galgos wish, committed rescuers and volunteers around the world work tirelessly to find homes for the nearly 100,000 galgos abandoned each year as a result of the hunting season in Spain. Often, these sweet, funny, athletic dogs are left on the streets, sick & beaten with no source of food or shelter. The As Galgos Wish collection brings together a unique community of designers, artists, crafters and makers to create amazing products that illustrate the hopes, dreams and wishes of the galgo so that they may find peace. By purchasing a product from the As Galgos Wish collection, you are showing your support, building awareness of the galgo and making those wishes come true. In addition, you are supporting talented artists and entrepreneurs with a passion for doing good in the world. Proceeds from the sale of these products goes directly to Save A Galgo Espanol, a 501c3 registered nonprofit.
Wishing on a Star
It is the goal of the As Galgos Wish collection, that each year new artists and designers will create truly amazing products that inspire and dare us to remember the plight of the galgos in Spain. These products will be a limited release and available in limited quantities so if you see something you like, don’t miss out on the opportunity. The theme this year, wishing on a star, is truly representative of this campaign where we often look to the stars for hope and reflect on life beyond our boundries. Just as the galgeros see no harm in discarding or killing a nonperforming or slow galgo hunter, others see the beauty, hope and the shining stars of these special galgo souls.
Meet the Designers, Artist & Makers
Alice Io Oglesby – Fabric designer, Alice Io Oglesby, best known for her illustrations in Hababy’s Christmas, written by Jamie Farr (of M*A*S*H Klinger Fame). She was struck by the energy and enthusiastic way the galgos move so she based her design on the idea of pent-up energy releasing in joyful play and running through silhouettes of swirls and stars to create the dream-like design. Alice chose bright, vibrant jewel tone colors for her fabric as a way to grab the viewers attention, provoking conversation about the plight of the galgo. Alice holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Vermont in mechanical engineering, as well as, a masters in product design from the College of Design at North Carolina State University. Alice is an avid gardner with a love of the power of the sun, recently creating a sundial for the famed Biltmore Estate in Ashville, North Carolina. Her company, Io Design & Illustration, is named after her middle name Io (pronounced EYE-oh). Io is the inner most moon of the planet Jupiter and the fourth-largest moon in our Solar System.
Emily O’Hara –Pendant designer, Emily O’Hara, owner of Silver Labyrinth Design, is a metalsmith and fiber artist. After years of weaving, Emily became curious about weaving with metal and found a course in silver jewelry making which lead to her passion for the art. Fiber related techniques or elements often influence her design process. Emily’s pendant for the Galgos Wishing on a Star collection is symbolic and the spirit of the galgo shining through the silvery starlight. For every star, there is a galgo wishing for a better life.

About Save A Galgo Español (SAGE)
Save A Galgo Español (SAGE) was founded in 2011 to raise awareness and make a difference in the lives of the Galgo Español, a sighthound breed, used for hunting hare in its country or origin, Spain. The main goal is to educate people about the situation of the Galgo Español through seminars, Meet and Greet events, and through use of social media. They support local shelters in Spain through fundraising. Another important part of our organization is the placement of rescued galgos into safe and loving homes. In this they strive not for quantity but quality. To learn more about the plight of the galgo, visit their website at www.sagehounds.com.
